Since three generations the family owns this charming 18th century farm house on the hills of the medieval city of Lucca, just beside an 11th century small white stoned facade church. The Farm has been restored and converted to a traditional residential home. On the ground floor rooms large windows face the glorious and verdant valley, highlighting burnished terracotta floors, beamed ceilings and antique furnishings. The extremely well maintained, walled garden is surrounded by beautiful century-old oak trees, Figs, Mimosa and Olives trees and completed by a growing orchard that with the extensive rockeries and lawns will lead to a swimming pool. There is also a "secret hidden garden" the gem of the patriarch of the family. La Cumbre is the ideal retreat after a day spent exploring the medieval town of Lucca and the surrounding countryside. Outdoor seating areas have been created for your pleasure in and about the grounds. Please come to discover and enjoy them. As Italian summers can be fierce there is a rather large Loggiato where up to 16 can dine al fresco on a long table, play a game of table tennis or just enjoy the fresh air during the long day or nights. An adorable guest quarter for 2 has been set on the far side of the loggia. It's a cosy and fresh twin bedroom with a fragrant cypress bathroom with a shower. Please let us know a couple of days before arrival if you would you like to have double or twin beds on the two rooms on the second floor? cots in any specific room (double or twin)? would you like us to put up some safety gates in the proximity of the various staircases? we also do have two High Chairs with or without the tray; I have three children of my own and my sister has two so we do know very well how certain small things would make your holiday a little more easy. A former Police man caretaker is very discreetly living next door with separate entrance by another road gate. On your arrival you will find our suggestions on things to do and a list of selected restaurants (our closest recommended is “Antica Osteria Meati" that lies within 1km distance of the house serving delicious “lucchese” cuisine tel: 0583 510373 and we enclose some comments on a separate list). Casoli is a medieval car-free mountain village north of Lucca, a great place for people who enjoy peace and quiet and nature. Via a winding road you end up in this wonderful spot with a breathtaking view for many kilometres! The area offers plenty of options for people who enjoy walking and mountain biking at any level, and even horse riding excursions in the Val di Lima. The comfortably furnished detached house has a lovely bathroom and kitchen with all mod cons, where the 18th century elements were preserved as much as possible. The cellar was built against a rock, which can be seen from inside. All this makes it extra exciting and exotic. The house is very cosy, looks like a chalet from the inside and offers the climate, culture, cuisine, the friendly inhabitants and charm of Italy. What a romantic spot! Borgo Gallinaio is a fabulous estate with a spacious layout. You can tell that the owner is an architect, and that this project is very close to his heart. The abundant outlooks and play areas throughout the grounds are connected by stairways and steep paths. Yet the estate offers plenty of privacy at the same time, since the areas are separated by the terraced grounds and the many trees. There is a fantastic view of the little villages situated below. There is a small pasture with a donkey at the very top of the grounds, which the kids are sure to love! Guests of all ages can enjoy a game on the boules court, located near the top of the estate. Here you will also find a long dining table situated at a unique vantage point, available for anyone's use at any time. You can follow the stairway up even further, where you will find more seating.
